What is Christian Charity?

«God is love» (1Jn 4,8). Jesus Christ is the face of God’s Love and Mercy. It is Jesus Himself who, with His example and His life, shows us how we must love each other and the donation we must have to each other and especially to the poorest, neediest, and discarded in our society. Leaving us the commandment of love, He has marked the path of Christian life: «A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another» (Jn 13,34).

Christian Charity is an inalienable duty of every parish community. It goes beyond humanistic altruism or NGO activity. In the words of Pope Francis, «Charity is the caress of the Church to its people, tenderness and closeness to those who suffer».  When a Christian acts towards the one who suffers, moved by charity, he finds in the brother who approaches Jesus Himself suffering, as he told us: «Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. » (Mt 25,40). The maturity and commitment of a parish community finds its optimal measure in the action of its Charity, a sign of God’s Love among humanity.

The parish of the Sagrada Família has various charity actions to attend to the needs of the poorest and most needy.
